The Federal Communications Commission has mandated that all interconnected Voice over IP (VoIP) providers are required to provide national Enhanced 911 service (E911) to end-users – whether residential or commercial.
The FCC Order requires the following service capabilities:
- VoIP providers must deliver 911 calls to a dispatcher via Selective Routers.
- VoIP providers must provide E911 service, which includes delivery of call-back number and location information to the emergency services operator, where the operator is capable of receiving this information.
- Customers (end-users) must have a means of changing their location information.
When you dial 9-1-1, your call will be handled quickly and efficiently, with added features over traditional 9-1-1 service.

VOICEPoint Operator Assisted 9-1-1
VOICEPoint Operator Assisted 9-1-1 service is available for all addresses associated with Telephone Numbers assigned by Access Point, Inc., whose locations are not in the VOICEPoint 9-1-1 coverage area. VOICEPoint Operator Assisted 9-1-1 allows for accounts with a valid address outside the VOICEPoint 9-1-1 service footprint to be routed automatically to an Emergency Call Response Center (ECRC). A live operator at the ECRC will receive the call-back number, the caller’s registered address and the serving Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP). The ECRC operator will tmanually route the call to a PSTN routable number at the appropriate PSAP. The ECRC operator will ensure that the call is answered by PSAP staff. The ECRC will then provide the call-back number and the address location information from the PSAP staff.

We are in the process of expanding VOICEPoint 9-1-1 service coverage throughout the United States. In the meantime, it is possible that we will not be able to provide VOICEPoint 9-1-1 service to you for some locations you may plan to visit. In these cases, if you still wish to travel to such a location, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations require that we temporarily suspend your VoIP calling service. |
